Q: What is FELA?
A: Railroad employees who are injured at work are covered under the Federal Employers Liability Act (“FELA”). Under the FELA, injured railroad workers can bring a claim directly against their employer if the railroad negligently caused the injury or violated a safety statute. For this reason, the railroads will attempt to pay you as little as possible. It is crucial that injured railroad employees obtain a lawyer to help maximize their recovery.
